Richard Newcourt’s Map of Barnstaple

Richard Newcourt’s map of Barnstaple, forgotten in the town since it was created some 350 years ago, returned home yesterday (12 November 2022).

It will be on display at the Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon until mid February 2023.

A series of lectures and a conference are being held – details of the latter (‘The Buildings of Barnstaple’ on 4 February) and further dates for the lecture series will be posted on the museum’s website in the next week or so.

A book (Barnstaple, 1640-1670) accompanies the exhibition and can be purchased at the museum, through all book-sellers or direct from sales @stevensbooks.co.uk.

The book features contributions from Stuart Ackland, Dr Richard Oliver, David Harrison, Bill Harvey, Dr Robert Higham, Naomi Ayre, Terry Green, Colette Hall, Dr Stuart Blaylock, Dr Jo Cox, Sandi Vass, Jeremy Haslam, Bob Godfrey, Professor Mark Stoyle, John Allan, Alison Mills and Dr Todd Gray.
