Update from Excavations at the First English Settlement in Canada

Aug 2, 2024

Those of you who attended the online talk in January 2023 by Bill Gilbert in Newfoundland may be interested in an update from him. Bill has been directing the excavations at Cupids in Newfoundland (the first English settlement in Canada) since 1995 and conducting historical research on the site as well.

He gave a lecture on his work to the Newfoundland and Labrador Historical Society on April 25th and it’s now available to view on YouTube. Here’s the link:

It’s very visual with lots of images of the excavations, artifacts and documents.

There’s a pause halfway through, but don’t worry things continues after a minute or so!
