The Society was formed with the aim of sharing the rich history and heritage of Great Torrington and District, and also that of the wider area. We host talks by a large variety of guest speakers who are enthusiastic and highly engaging on their topic.
Subjects have ranged from Iron Age Life, the Black Death, and the 1646 Battle of Torrington to WW2 U-boats, the Lynton Floods and up to more modern history of the local milk factory.
We meet on a monthly basis from September to April with occasional outside visits during the summer months.
