The Space hosts another well-known guest this month – you may well have heard of Martin Palmer – he is a regular contributor to the BBC on religious, ethical and historical issues. It promises to be a fascinating evening – Martin is a church historian who is fascinated by our beautiful building, its layers of history, how it relates to society at the time it was built and rebuilt, and to the local landscape. The idea is to explore through the physical building of the church and through Jay Ramsay’s poems what the different elements of the history of a church tell us about our relationship with God. Jay Ramsay, poet, psychotherapist and healer, who lived on Ackrells Hill, died last December – his funeral took place in the church.
Reading the church offers a journey through time, place, belief and poetry and will be rooted in Jay’s poems and in Martin’s book “Sacred Land” which is a guide to how to read our built landscape and the beliefs, stories and legends built into it over the last 5000 years.
Entry £10.00 includes both the talk and a communal supper.
