Deeley, Misses Leila and Edith

Deeley, Misses Leila and Edith, 4 Argyle Terrace, Restormel Road, Plymouth

Miss L.M. Deeley and Miss E.M. Deeley were early Devon Suffrage Activists involved in 1890 in signing one of the public petitions requesting that women be given the vote.

For more information about the petition see:

Margarita Rendel: ‘The campaign in Devon for Women’s Suffrage, 1866-1908’, Transactions of the Devonshire Association, 2008, vol. 40, pp.111-151.

They are listed on the 1891 census at the address above, which was a lodging-house in which they were boarders, living on their own means, aged 29 and 26, and giving their place of birth as Warwickshire. It has not, however, proved possible to find any further information about them and the Devon History Society would greatly appreciate any further information about these activists.
