Devon History Society is collaborating with the Devon Family History Society and the South West Heritage Trust on a new research project to explore what life was like in Devon in the 1920s.

Some 525 cottages in Devon were restored according to the generous provisions of the 1926 Housing (Rural Workers Act)

The Devon History Society Early Victorian Schools research project ran between 2015 and 2018. A collection of articles produced as part of the project has been published in Volume 88 of The Devon Historian, and the case studies on which those articles are based are currently in the process of publication here.

Devon History Society members collaborated during 2017/18 to mark the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918 by researching the lives of the women who were active in Devon during the suffrage campaigns between 1866 and 1918.

Devon History Society members collaborated during 2015-2016 with the University of Exeter on a research project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s Everyday Lives in War project. The first essays written by members were published in September 2015 and are available here:

The Devon History Society Orchard Project is a DHS initiative to improve documentation of the decline of fruit growing in Devon – particularly East Devon – in the 19th century.  It has now completed transcription of orchard data from Devon tithe apportionments c. 1840, and the summary report is now available.
