The Tinworking Landscape of Dartmoor in a European Context

The Tinworking Landscape of Dartmoor in a European Context – Prehistory to 20th Century (Dartmoor Tinworking Research Group 2017), edited by Phil Newman, is available at a price of £18.00 + £2.00 p&p.

The A4 softback volume has 156 pages, and approx. 135 colour and b&w illustrations.  The eleven papers were presented to a conference in Tavistock in May 2016.  Authors include key archaeological researchers in south-west England – Tom Greeves, Peter Herring, Simon Hughes, Phil Newman and Henrietta Quinnell – as well as a contribution from geologist Richard Scrivener.  There are also papers on tinworks and mines in the Czech Republic and Iberia, and on tin isotope analysis in Germany.  The volume contains much previously unpublished information on the field archaeology, prehistory and history of Dartmoor tinworking, mines, mills and accommodation, plus comparative data from Cornwall and continental Europe.
