Chagford Local History Society (CLHS) promotes engagement with the history of the town and the surrounding district. In 2018, with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Society set up a heritage centre and archive, which is based next to the town library in the Jubilee Hall.  The archive aims to be of a professional standard and carries a large collection which is being catalogued on MODES Compact software. Currently visits to the archive can be made by request but we hope to announce regular opening hours in due course.  We research and mount exhibitions about the history of the town which are displayed in the heritage centre and elsewhere. In the winter and spring we run a series of lectures, free to members, £4.00 to non-members.  During the summer members can enjoy a number of history-themed outings.  Annual membership is £10.00.
