It chronicles the religious and social history of the buildings that have stood on the city-centre site since Roman times.

It follows the church's origins, surroundings and its buildings, but it looks also at its wealth, its clergy and the people who live cheek by jowl with what is, and always has been, the jewel in Exeter's crown.
